The Caney Creek is probably correct as there is evidence of the Branhams owning land there.

There is an account in the Big Sandy News, microfilm Feb 5 1856-Aug 11, 1859 (Bloody Deed) The Ashland Kentuckian saya that David Branham was shot through the body with a rifle ball on the 16th inst., at Loista, KY by James Vinson, a man who had been drinking hard for several days. This reported by Ancestry member Glenda Kennemore.
I doubt this is our David as the years don't add up but it is an interesting story.
