Charles was convicted of 2nd degree murder of his wife with a butcher knife in 1941. He said she attacked him with a knife and a water dipper. He said his mind was unclear to what happened after she struck him with the dipper. His sentence was for 40 years. He was admitted to the men's penitentiary at Fort Madison in June of 1941. His record is marked Exp. 4-4-1957. I'm not sure what that means. He died in Waterloo in 1980.
