Dutton's family moved to Pittsylvania Co., VA when he was a young boy. The first record of him in Pittsylvania Co., VA is a land purchase of 200 acres on the east fork of Cascade Creek. There is no actual date for this deed but an estimate of 1749 was made when someone abstracted the deed.Event-Misc
He purchased 400 acres on Town Creek which was next to property owned by his brother, Edward.Dutton purchased several more tracts over the years but only a 168 acre tract was surveyed.
Dutton's brother, Edward, and several Lane cousins as well as his father, Robert purchased land in this same area over the years.

The last documentation of Dutton in VA was hi name on the 1770-1771 Tithables List of Botetourt Co., VA.Event-Misc
Deed book entry No. 833: " Dutton Sweeting e. (entered) 50 ac. on the N fork New River....mouth Laurel fork....including his improvements."This 50 acres was part of a larger tract purchased by his brother, Edward as indicated in entry No. 821 on 2-9-1779.
This area became Ashe Co., NC and is located in the valley between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains.
Other family members also in the area are: Dutton's sister, Nancy and her husband Richard Smith, and his sister Sarah and her husband, Able Pennington. It is likely that his parents were also living in the area.
