John Woodson
(Abt 1632 - 1684)
John was appraiser of the estate of Capt. James Crewes on 24 Mar 1681. His own will dated 26 Aug 1684 and proved 1 Oct 1684, mentioned "wife", named two sons, two grandchildren, his "cozen" [nephew] John Woodson and his brother Robert's four youngest Robert, Richard, Joseph & Benjamin.
Sarah Brown said not his first wife but another wife's name is unknown. The unknown wife would have been the mother of John and Robert. He had married by 1677 to Sarah Brown, widow. She gave bond as his relict on 2 Feb 1685; kept the couty ferry until 1693; and left her own will dated 4 Feb 1702, proved 1 Oct 1704. It is in Henrico Co Wills & Deeds 1697-1704, p.427.
In 1677, John Woodson presented an account of the estate belonging to orphans of John Brown, dec'd, wife of said Woodson and mother of said orphans and with consent of said John, this his wife Sarah Woodson shall have in her care the estate belonging to said orphans. Jeremiah Brown was of age in 1684. Temperance Batte, wife of Thomas Batte, 1688, and Solomon Knibbs, 1704, son of Sam Knibbs, asked for, and got, their portion of the John Brown estate.
