Dr. John Woodson
(1586 - 1644)
Arrived in Jamestown, VA on the ship "George" April 19, 1619, after a "sore voyage". Sarah's brother, Anthony Winston, came with them. Dr. Woodson was physician & surgeon to the British soldiers on the ship. They settled in Flowerdieu. In 1644, Dr. Woodson was killed in an Indian attack.
Flowerdew Hundred was known as Peirsey's Hundred in the Muster of Feb 1625. John & Sarah were fellow passengers on the ship with Gov. Sir George Yeardly.
Most of the early information on this family has been taken from a family account written about 1785 by Charles Woodson [1711-1795] son of Tarlton Woodson of the 4th generation. This account is in the Virginia State Library.
John Woodson is said to have been killed in the Indian massacre 18 Apr 1644 when his children were very young.
