First record: Goochland deed Book 1, p. 308. Dated 18 Mar 1731. 400 acres, north side of James River from Samuel Burks of St James Parish, Goochland Co to "Arthur Hopkins, a physician of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co" On 16 June 1734 (Deed Book 5, p. 516) Arthur Hopkins conveyed the same 400 acres to John Henderson.

Obtained land patent as early as 1732 on Byrd Creek in Goochland County VA:

24 Aug 1732. Patent for 400 acres in Goochland County on the main Byrd Creek of the James River.

1734 Road cleared from Horselys bridge to licking hole creek by Sylvester Prophet (? Proffitt) Arthur Hopkins, John Moseby, Martin Duncan, George Sutherlan, Thomas Wharton, and John Richards. Dr. Hopkins and members of his family moved to Pittsylvania County circa 1762 according to Clement's, HISTORY OF PITTSYLVANIA CO VA . Certainly his son Arthur moved there, but Arthur Sr's will is in Albemarle - he never left Virginia.

Hopkins will was dated 31 May 1765, recorded 12 Mar 1767, Albemarle Co. Wife Elizabeth was still living. Children named were Samuel, John, Arthur Jr., William, James, Isabella, Mary Cabell wife of Col. Joseph Cabell, Lucy Robinson, wife of George Robinson. [some of the daughters may have already been deceased]
