Dr. JOHN JENCKES

Became a doctor and lived at Smithfield, RI. However, the first seven children are said to have born at Dartmouth, MA.

John was residing in Smithfield at the time Govenor Charles Lawrence of Nova Scotia offered 100 acres of wild land to every mast of family, 11 Jan 1759. In May of 1760, four sloops carried 100 settlers emigrating from Newport RI. By 1761, twenty families had founded the town of Sackville and a list of subscribers for the Township lists John Jenckes, several other Jenckes men, and Ichabod Comstock. John Jenks was present for the first town meeting of Sackville, 20 Jul 1762. He had shares of a grant in Sackville dated 31 Jan 1773, but he did not settle there. He returned to Smithfield.

Will recorded in Smithfield, dated 14 Apr 1776 and proved on 17 June. John Jenckes, physician. Wife Rachel. Sons: Isaac, Edmund, Henry, Jesse, Thomas & Lawrence. In addition to Edmund & Henry "5 other sons". Six daughters: Mary Smith, Sarah Comstock, Carolina Angell, Patience Comstock, Lidia Lapham & Abigail Comstock. Grandson William Jenckes to receive surgeon's books and instruments. Wit: Jonathan Harris, William, David, & Joseph Benchley, Daniel Brayton, Silas Downer/Drowne
