Gladys Manily Higginbotham Brookins
Gladys Manily Brookins, 87, of Orange, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 9, at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens near Bridge City.
Visitation will be from noon until service time Saturday, at the funeral home.
Gladys was born in Port Arthur on March 15, 1925, to Nelson Morris Higginbotham and Eleonora "Maynora" Patin Higginbotham. She married Clathon Varnell Brookins August 17, 1944 in Phenix City, Lee County, Alabama. Gladys was a member of North Orange Baptist Church, the V.F.W., Disabled Veterans Auxiliary and the American Legion. She was a real estate broker for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clathon Varnell Brookins, Sr.; daughter, Diana Lynn Brookins; and sister, Ruth Wilson.
Gladys is survived by her son, Clathon Varnell Brookins, Jr. of Little Rock, AR.; daughter, Sharon Rodgers of Runaway Bay, TX.; son, Kenneth Brookins of Orange; three grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
