Nelson Morris Higginbotham passed away in his home on Starks Highway, in Vinton, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, Sunday, June 10, 1979, after a long illness.
Nelson was born February 8, 1898 to John Adam and Marie Louise Young Higginbotham in Iota, Acadia Parish, Louisiana.
He was a native of Iota, and has lived in Vinton the past 40 years. Nelson was a retired representative of Stanolin Oil and Gas Company. He was a World War I veteran and was a member of the famous Rainbow Division, 42nd Machine gun battalion. He fought five major battles and was a charter member of the American Legion since 1919, when it was organized.
Nelson was preceded in death by his 1st wife: Eleonora Maynora Patin Higginbotham; parents and siblings.
rvivors include his wife, Viola Marie Patin Higginbotham; Daughters: Ruth Wilson and husband Robert "Bob" of Vinton; Gladys Brookins and husband Clathon of Orange, Texas. Seven grandchildren: Maynora "May" Glenn and husband Johnny "John" of Rowlett Texas; Alice Bridie-Granhold of Plano Texas; Debra Mata and her husband Avundio "Willie" of Houston Texas; Ben Robert Wilson and wife Alice East of Vinton, Clathon Brookins, Jr. "Clay" and wife Carolyn Jean "Jeanne" Dollar of Little Rock Arkansas; Sharon Rodgers and husband Wayne of Wichita Falls, Texas and Diana Lynn Brookins of Orange, Texas. 11 great- grandchildren: Tamera Glenn; Johnny Glenn Jr.; Thomas "Tommy" Granhold; Ronald "Ronny" Granhold; Eric Granhold; Servaundo Mata; Jillena Mata; Isiah Mata; Candy Brookins; Randall Brookins and Terry Wayne Rodgers.
