Wife's name was Mariah. She was born in Missouri during slavery. Her maiden name is uncertain. She had at least three children, Joseph, Susan, and John, who carried the surname of Perkins. She had two children, Sallie and Fannie, who carried the surname Picket.
Mariah married Henry Clay Gentry in Palmyra, Missouri in 1888.

A select coterie, composed of Thos. H. Memefee, Nicholas Everly and the HERALD, witnessed Monday night the first marriage ceremony performed by Judge D. S. Thomas. The contracting parties were Henry Clay Gentry and Myra Perksin. All Parties conducted themselves with dignity, especially the Judge who looked unusually solemn.

Mariah Gentry, the widow of Clay Gentry, a well known colored man of this city, who died a number of years ago, died in Quincy yesterday. She was well known to many of our older citizens.
