Andrew Wallace Howell

Served in the Confederacy as a private in Capt. J. B. Forrester's Company, Crawford County. Asked to be buried in his grey uniform.
Arch Howell states he served in Stirmans Regt of Sharpshooters, 1st Battalion, AR Cavalry. Furnished his own horse. Taken prisoner after being badly wounded at the Hatchie River Battle in Tennessee.
Service record that survives is brief:
Andrew enlisted at Van Buren, AR on 11 Oct 1861.
Muster Roll of Jan-Feb 1863, states he was absent: Taken prisoner at Hatchie river battle, Oct. 6, 1862. Paroled and went to Ark. Not yet returned.
He was on a List of enlisted soldiers and officers paroled at Bolivar, TN, 13 Oct 1862.

Found in 1910 Census, age 76 with wife of 40 years, Arminta. They had 3 children, 2 still living. He stated this was his 2nd marriage!

Married 33 years in 1900 Census.
