Henry H. Howell

(1812 - 1883)



1850 immigrated to Arkansas on a flat-boat (great-grandson Arch Howell says they came from Tennessee to Arkansas in 1852), settling on Lee's Creek near Van Buren for 5 years. Founder of Uniontown (as Hickory Grove); Constable and deputy sheriff. Early in the Civil War he was appointed to a committee of men in Crawford County organized to furnish the Confederate soldiers with supplies.

1860 Census. Henry, age 48, b. TN. Martha age 45. Children born in TN: Andrew 26, Thos. 18, Adam 15, Henry 11, Emily 9. Margaret Carter lived with them with her son Robert.

1870 Census, Henry Howell, age 60, b. TN. Martha age 54, b. TN. Henry, age 21, b. TN.
