MIriam Wight was the daughter of Ephriam Wight and Lydia Morse, of Medfield, where she married Joseph Allen (1676-1727) in Medfield in 1701, and where he died.
The stone (pictured) for "M A" cannot, with available records, be positively identified or connected to any individual. That said, educated guesses can be made from the records and the stone itself.
This stone stands close to two others made of similar material and age, and appears to be carved by the same hand (see photos). Those other stones, inscribed "H C and E C", and "R D" have been tentatively identified as Hannah and Ezekial Collar, children of Phineas and Hannah (Daniels) Collar, and Robert Daniels, the maternal grandfather of those children.
If we accept that the stones were carved by the same hand, and therefore in the same time frame, then we must look to the records for someone who died around 1750 with the initials "M A". Sturbridge Vital Records shows only one possibility- Miriam Allen, a widow, who died on 15 Apr 1746. Miriam moved to Sturbridge, likely with her son Aarons's family at about the same time as Phineas Collar arrived with his family.
Sturbridge records indicate that Miriam Allen was buried in Sturbridge. An inventory of the Old Burial Ground does not find any other stone for Miriam Allen.
For these reasons, I have tentatively assigned this otherwise unidentified stone to Miriam Allen.
