Individual Details

Aaron Allen

(13 Feb 1714/15 - 3 May 1794)

There were two Aaron Allens of near the same age and both married Hannahs - this one was the son of Joseph Allen & Miriam Wight.

An Aaron Allen also married a lady named Hannah and lived in Sturbridge at the same time as his brother Moses. Aaron remained in Sturbridge as did most of his children. At least two of his children intermarried with other Allens that are not known to have been children of Moses. Online databases show this Aaron to be a son of Joseph Allen & Miriam Wright of Medfield, Norfolk, MA. It is said that this Aaron along with brothers Joseph and Moses moved from Medfield to Sturbridge about the year 1736 - Joseph and Moses were chosen town officers in the incorporation of Sturbridge in 1738. Aaron & Moses were baptized in Medfield, Moses 20 Sep 1708 and Aaron 13 Feb 1714/15.

Most of the Vital Records from the book of Sturbridge Vital Records, are originally from the Congregational Church Record..

The earliest record of Aaron in Sturbridge is when son Aaron was born, 1739. That is the same year that Moses, son of Moses & Hannah Allen was born - baby Moses was baptized a month before the recorded birth of baby Aaron.

Young Aaron married Abigail Allen in Sturbridge in 1764 - she outlived him. There were two additional marriages in Sturbridge for Aaron Allen, during the time both were living, but they were his father. The elder Aaron's wife Hannah died in August of 1778. There is a marriage for Aaron Allen to Deborah Plumpton, widow, on 4 Jan 1779 - this was his marriage in his late years. A third marriage record is Aaron Allen to Katherine Smith of Charlton, 9 Aug 1787.

Aaron Allen, died 3 May 1794, in his 79th year. This age agrees with the Aaron, son of Joseph Allen of Medfield. Aaron Jr. is also listed as having died in his 79th year.

Research of Lei Rachelle Child:
Aaron Allen was born in 1715 in Medfield, son of Joseph Allen. Soon after the establishment of Sturbridge in 1729, members of Aaron's family started moving to Sturbridge.
Sturbridge was first settled in 1729 by settlers from Medfield, and was officially incorporated in 1738.
According to the book, An historical sketch of Sturbridge, Mass., from its settlement to the present time, Aaron's uncle Nehemiah from Medfield and Aaron's brother Moses were some of the earliest settlers of Sturbridge. See Sources. This source also mentions Aaron's brother Joseph. Aaron's sister Lydia also moved to Sturbridge.

"Five of Aaron and Hannah Allen's children died young in Sturbridge. Placed next to Hannah Allen's maker are four rough, mostly illegible markers. Marker #2 appears to be for Amasa Allen, marker #3 appears to be for Thankful Allen, and marker #4 appears to be for Reuben Allen. Markers #1 would likely be for Joel and/or Hannah Allen. Documentation shows that those five children passed and were buried in the Old Burial Ground."
