Married name was Storey.
Married Well and Often: Marriages of the Northern Neck of Virginia, 1649-1800
Storey [fnu] & Thrift, Winifred; before 24 Apr 1775; bride was a daughter of William Thrift (d. Richmond Co 1776 - Richmond Co WB 7; p.213)

Ancestry DNA match claims he was John Story (1741, Halifax NC, d. 1810 Chatham, NC) and they had sons John and James, b. 1770 in Chatham, NC - I find no proof of such relationship beyond the following found on Find A Grave Memorial# 39876526 which suggests there was no son John, yet this match claims descent through the son John
Here is James:
James Story, b. 1770 NC, d. 1835 Morgan, IL (no stone pictured) buried Mount Zion West Cemetery, Murrayville, Morgan Co, IL
James Story was born about 1770 in North Carolina, the son of John and Winnifred (Thrift) Story. This was a second marriage for Winnifred, and her only other known child with John Story was Margaret who was born in 1773 died in 1859.
James married Hannah Mary Self by 1794, probably in North Carolina. They were parents of at least nine children: Vincent, married five times; Parrish, husband of Mary "Polly" Duncan McManus; John, who married Sarah "Sally" Whitlock; Margaret, who first married George William Rousey and after he died Eusuriah "Ezra" Poland; James, husband of Elizabeth R. Cameron; William, who married Harriet Hettick; Nancy, wife of Thomas Whitlock; Elizabeth, married to Isaac Hull; and Porter, husband of Nancy Jane Gunn. Supposedly, there were two more children: Benjamin, born about 1796, and Mary Emily, born about 1804, but no further records have been found for them.
The family was living in Alabama by 1811 and then Tennessee by 1817. Their final move to Illinois came about 1830. Four of their sons: Vincent, Parrish, William and Porter, and three daughters: Margaret, Nancy and Elizabeth, moved to Illinois with their parents. Sons John and James remained in what is now Montgomery County, Tennessee, where they each died.
There is no existing record of James Story's death, but his wife Hannah is listed as head of the household by the time the 1835 Illinois State Census was taken, and there is no male his age in the family's Census records after 1830.
