Individual Details

Thomas Crutcher

(1837 - )

The following age doesn't agree with the 1840 and 1850 censuses. Thomas should have been more like 25. Perhaps the enlisting officer just guessed at an age, but I did find an indication of possibly another T. M. Crutcher in Mississippi, that the following may belong to. DeSoto, Marshall & Tippah counties all border Tennessee across northern Mississippi.

This evidence would validate that the following is a very DIFFERENT Thomas M. Crutcher. He was in fact the son of Thomas Crutcher (1797-1848) and Ann McCargo (1802-1881) who married 23 Jun 1823 in Charlotte Co, VA - a line of Crutchers very different from these who were in Granville, NC

1850 Census. DeSoto Co, MS, Hh 316

Wm, 26, b. VA

Rock Island Confederate Cemetery is the only surviving remnant of a massive prison camp that once held thousands of Confederate soldiers. Located near the southeast corner of Arsenal Island in Rock Island, Illinois, the Confederate Cemetery is the final resting place for nearly 2,000 prisoners of war who died in captivity from disease and the poor living conditions of the camp. The modest cemetery stands in poignant contrast to the Rock Island National Cemetery, a half-mile to the southeast.
