MARTHA Longmire

(Abt 1800 - )

I have no direct proof Martha was a daughter of this William Longmire - however, there is a female child in his household in both 1810 and 1820 of an age to be Martha. William and his brother Robert were the two Longmires that had remained in Granville and lived there for her to marry there in 1826. Robert's will and estate in 1847, when Martha was apparently still living, makes no provision for such daughter, and he did not marry until 1810 - Martha born between 1800 and 1810, probably closer to 1800. The brother John Longmire left Granville for Wake Co, NC just prior to 1800. The brother Elijah, had children born in Tennessee as early as 1806. They simply were not in Granville at the time Martha married Mastin Critcher. There is no other Longmire family for Martha.

1850 Census in Oxford, Granville, NC, living between Anson Critcher and John & Sarah Critcher:
William Longmire, age 30, Pauper
Hannah, 70
Fanny, 39, pauper
Hannah, 27
This is quite possibly the family of Martha Longmire. I suspect the elder Hannah was the pauper - not young William.

Is this Martha, age 30-40?
Mastin/Martin Crutcher living in Tippah Co MS in 1840. He had 1m under 5, 1m 5-10, 1m age 40-50 and 1f under 5, 2f 5-10, 2f 10-15, 1f 15-20, 2f 20-30, and 1f 30-40.

Is this Martha - either surname marked wrong, or she had married a Malone who then promptly died. The children's names and ages match her Critcher children and she is possibly living next to her married daughter. In fact this supposition seems to tie the Critcher-Hays-Malone families together as I have long suspected.

John, 17, b. TN
Caroline, 14, b. TN
Thomas, 13, b. TN

A William Longmire is found in Granville records - the name is rare in that place. I would think he might be the father or more likely, grandfather, of Martha. The will of William, of which his son Robert was one of the Executors, was found. Robert at first seemed to be a good candidate for the father of Martha as a Longmire who remains in Granville, Co, but his estate eliminates that possibility - leaving his brother William as the best candidate. The following are some of the Longmire records in Granville.
