Nancy Tanner and Richard were first cousins. Her mother Sarah was a sister to Samuel P. Morton.

Samuel Morton's pension application stated he went to Clark Co KY in 1794. The 1792 Tax Roll for Clark Co lists the following Mortons: David, Hugh, John, Richard.

Before 1805, Richard & family went to Clark County KY where he married Polly Noland; then to Madison Co by 1810.

Richard married (2) Mary "Polly" Noland. Surety: David Ogdon. James Haggard married them. Richard Morton, guardian of Mary Nolin.

1810 Madison Co KYCensus. Richard Morton, age 26-45. 2 boys under 10 [Samuel & Richard], 2 boys 10-16 [Archibald & Wade]. 1 girl under 10, 1 female 16-26 [Polly].

1820 Madison Co KY Census, p.130: Lists a Richard Morton as over 45, as is the older female in the household. The children are 4m under 10 [Josiah, Andrew Jackson and ??]; 2m 10-16 [Samuel & Richard] 1f under 10.

1830 Madison Co KY, p.126: Richard Morton, age 50-60.
2m -5, 2m 5-10, 2m 10-15 [Andrew Jackson & ?], 1m 15-20 [Josiah];
[Younger males are unknown.]
1f 15-20 [unk dau], 1f 30-40 [Polly]
Also on same page were Richard Morton Jr [presumably James Richard] and Samuel Morton, both betwen 20-30 years of age & both in their own household.

Found in the pension application papers of Samuel P. Morton:
18 Mar 1845 Letter from J. J. Montgomery, Masonic College MO, apparently a representative for Richard Morton asking about the Bounty Land and pension promised his father which was not ever received. [Samuel had died the month following his application]. He asked that answers be directed to Palmyra, MO. He stated he was inquiring "at the earnest Solicitations of his son who is an ignorant and an infirm man".
28 Jan 1851 Lancaster, MO. Note signed by Richard (X) Morton giving permission for one Vespasian Ellis to examine the Pension application and proofs filed by Samuel Morton.

Masonic College was established in Marion Co MO in 1843 and was near Palmyra. J. J. Montgomery was in charge of the Refectory. The Masonic Fraternity of Missouri were the sponsors of this school. Lancaster was in Clark Co MO.
