"Scipio - November 29, 1889 - Mr. E. P. Hoskins quietly and peacefully passed into the great hereafter, while sitting in his chair like one sleeping. He was seventy-six years of age, and nearly all his active life had been passed in this town where he held many offices of trust and honor.
He was a man of great physical endurance, and when in his prime, he thought nothing of riding on horseback hundreds of miles in the discharge of his duty as sheriff. We remember that as late as '68 or '69 he sent out every horse on his farm with a Republican rider, through the drifted roads, himself leading, fearful that the terrible storm which was raging would lose us the Supervisor.
He was frank, cheerful, frugal, sincere, a steadfast friend, a wise counselor, a model husband and father, and all his neighbors speak well of him. His funeral was largely attended on Sunday at his late residence, Rev. Mr. Jackson, of Fleming officiating."
