Robert Poor

(18 Jun 1763 - 1801)

Robert was baptized 31 Jul 1763, St. James Northam.

Also served in the Revolution. "a cornet in Lee's Partisan Legion, Virginia Line in DAR Lineage Book Vol. III p.118" He received a bounty land warrant.

Lisbeth Mims consented to the marriage of her daughter Elizabeth to Robert Poor, 7 Feb 1787.

I believe he had an uncle of the same name living in the area and was called Robert "Jr". He also seems to have accepted the responsibility of caring for his mother-in-law and young sister-in-law.

Equity Box 39, Case #960, filed 12 Aug 1834 by Drury W. Poor, James Poor, Abraham Poor, & Benjamin A. King vs. Poor heirs. Gives the widow as Mary Poor. [I think the abstract is wrong - they were confused with the daughter Mary - she should have the widow Elizabeth Poor] States that Robert Poor died 1801 in Virginia leaving the widow and the following children: D. W. [Drury Woodson] Poor, James Poor, Martha Poor who married Abraham Poor [presumably a cousin], Nancy Poor who married Benj A. King; Elizabeth Poor, now dec'd, who married Henry G. Bibb and left infants Richard E., Henry, Elizabeth & James Bibb; Robert Poor, now dec'd who left infants Elizabeth, Sally Ann, and Drury W, Mary Poor married John James now dec'd with children Mary James married to John W. Mimms, William James, John, Elizabeth, Nancy Robert, Thomas, & Drury W. James. This petition is to sell the slaves assigned to the widow as her dower and divide the proceeds. [Obviously the widow has died.]

DAR patriot files online show that the wife of son James was Jane Gill Clinton; Drury Woodson Poor's wife was Elizabeth Britt.
