In the 1900 Census, Ann stated that she had 14 children, 10 were living. I have names of 10 of the children from the various censuses. They had been married 32 years at that time. Ann gave the place of birth of both her parents as Tennessee; she was born in Arkansas.

By 1910, Ann stated that only 9 of her children were living. They were living in Erath Co, TX

Annie E. Allen applied to the state of Arkansas for Pension as a Widow of a Confederate Soldier on 9 April 1923. She stated that she was born on 4 September 1851; was a resident of Crawford County; her husband died 20 Dec 1912. Nealy Owens and O. M. Vinsant certified they had known her for 14 & 30 years respectively and knew her to be a resident of Arkansas. She was incapacitated for manual labor by reason of old age and had no property exceeding $500 not including the value of her homestead. She had no income in excess of $250 per year. On a similar document S. T. Matlock and Nealy Owens again certified the above facts and admitted that they did not know about his Army service but lived in the same neighborhood with the applicant. Both certifications dated 14 Apr 1923. Proof of Henry Clay Allen's service came from B. R. Jacobs of Idabel, OK who said he had known Henry C. Allen for about 60 years and that he was a Conferedate soldier in Company E Infantry of 19th Arkansas, Hardies Regiment, Churchill Division from about Dec of 1862 to about May 1865, Lee's Surrender. Dated 27 Apr 1923. F. M. Cecil, of Vandervoort, Polk County, AR, also testified that he had known Henry C. Allen for sixty years and that he served as stated by Mr. Jacobs; dated 2 May 1923. The Pension Board did approve her full pension but no amount is stated. A copy of a Questionnaire from the State Auditor's Office, ordered 7 Jan 1932, proves that Ann was still living at that time. She gives her full name as Ann Eliza Allen, born 4 Sep 1852 [she had stated 1851 earlier] in Jonson [sic[ County, AR. She was married to Henry Clay Allen on 2 Jun 1868 in Croford Co, AR. She was making her home with her daughter Lula Phillips in Van Buren. She owned no property and had no income other than her Arkansas Confederate Pension; she used "most all" of her pension each month for her own benefit. [I'm not at all sure she filled out this form herself though it has her signature on it - her hand was quite strong and steady for a lady 81 years old. And on the application in 1923, she had signed with "her mark".]

1930 Census. Van Buren Twp, Crawford Co AR. Ann E. Allen, mother-in-law, age 77 & widowed was living with Oscar T. Phillips and his wife Lula M. She is said born in Arkansas, her parents born Mississippi [they had come to Arkansas from Mississippi].

Buried in Pevehouse Cemetery in Crawford County AR. No marker. She is probably the Eliza Allen from Crawford Co who died Dec 7, 1933, as listed on the Arkansas Death Record Index on Ancestry.com. However, a family tree on Ancestry of a descendant of son Ulysses has a year of death for Ann Eliza as 1945. Another, a descendant of her daughter Lula or Lola, says she died 7 Dec 1933 - but that appears to also be picked up from the Ancestry database. All of the above are wrong...

Mrs. Ann Allen, RFD 1, Van Buren, Van Buren Twp, Crawford Co, died 2 Aug 1939 Of influenza. She was born 4 Sep 1852 in Johnson Co, AR, daughter of Elias Hays and Marth Cruther, both said born in Mississippi. Son, Elbert Allen of RFD !, Van Buren, was the informant. Buried on Aug 3rd, Peevy House Cemetery.

Mrs. Annie Ellen (sic) Dies at at Home of Son
Mrs. Annie Allen, 86 years old, died about 3:30 pm Wednesday at the home of her son Elbert Allen, north of Van Buren. She had been ill about ten days.
Mrs. Allen was born in Johnson County, Arkansas, but had spent most of her life in Crawford County. In addition to her son Elbert, she is survived by two other sons, Ed of Fort Smith and U. S. of Lubbock, Texas; two daughter, Mrs. Tom Phillips of the home and Mrs. Dora Crump of California; two brothers, John Hayes, Van Buren, and Silas Hayes, Fort Smith, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the Pevey House cemetery with Rev. J. A. Riddle, Baptist minister, officiating. The Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren will have charge of arrangements.
