BURLINGTON - Mrs. Elizabeth Hayden Harman, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Twin Lakes Center.
There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery, High Point by the Rev. David Williams of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.
She was born July 29, 1907, the daughter of Jesse Franklin and Velva Green Hayden. She was educated in the High Point schools and attended Brenau College, where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. She was a past P.T.A. president for two terms, Regent for the Battle of Alamance Chapter of the DAR and president of the Burlington Service League. She was active in the Episcopal Church as a choir mother, Bazaar Chairwoman and served three terms as treasurer of the Episcopal Churchwomen. She helped organize the Carolinas Junior Girls and served as president of the Golf Association for three years. She also served as president of the Nine O'Clock Club, the Belles Lettres Club, Burlington Council of Book Clubs, and Garden Club. She served on the United Fund Board, the Alamance County Arts Association, the Womens Carolinas Golf and as a vice-president of the N.C. Womens Golf Association. She was a former member of the board of directors of North State Telecommunications Corp. in High Point.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David M. Harman of 1984; and three sisters.
Surviving are her son, J. Patrick Harman and wife, Phoebe Norville Harman of Burlington; two grandsons, David L. Harman of Jamestown and Patrick H. Harman of Greensboro; and two great-granddaughters, Alison D. Harman and Meredith L. Harman of Greensboro.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff of Twin Lakes Center for their help and special, kind care for Lib, and to all of her many friends. These frequent visits brought joy to her life.
