Elizabeth Clifford

(1786 - By Jul 1870)

Elizabeth seems to have been a widow by 1840.
Logan Co Census, p.23
Elizabeth Proctor. 1m 10-15 (John T. age 10), 1m 15-20 (Charles-16), 3m 20-30 (Jacob, James, William - Hezekiah was married). 1f 10-15 (Martha, 13), 1f 15-20 (Mary - 19), 1f 20-30 (Rebecca - Elizabeth was married), and 1f age 50-60. Two slaves.

Living in the household with Elizabeth Proctor in the 1850 Census are her two deaf & dumb children, Rebecca and John Thomas, daughter Nancy, and two probable grandchildren - Joseph H. age 8 and Charles W. age 6.
The Slave Schedule lists two slaves for Elizabeth Proctor - 29 year old female and a 16 year old male

1860 Census. South Union, Logan Co KY, p.374; Household 286.
Elizabeth Proctor, age 74; Rebecca age 35, Spinstress, Deaf & Dumb; Martha age 33, Seamstress, John age 29, Deaf & Dumb, John Hayden, age 4. Says all born in KY. Son Jacob was listed just before Elizabeth, son Charles just after.
The Hayden child is apparently a grandson, John Thomas Haden. Elizabeth's daughter named Elizabeth married William Haden and had six known children, the youngest was born in 1856, age 4, and also listed in the census with his father; his mother deceased.

The provisions of the will of James S. Proctor were that his brother Charles and wife Elizabeth were to have the use of the property on which they lived for their lifetime - it was then to be divided among their children. By 1870, some of the children were deceased and it's possible some had previously deeded their "rights" to siblings.
18 Jul 1870. Will Book K, p.309-311 (img 177; FamilySearch.org; Kentucky Probates)
Division of lands of Elizabeth Proctor, dec'ed. Commissioners: John H. Wood, C. H. Blakey, E. A. Price.
Heirs and division to: James O. Procter, 8 acres. Martha, Rebecca & John T. Procter, 207 acres, their shares to be laid off together. Jacob C. Procter, 137 acres. Thomas Haden, William Haden, Mary Haden - each 6 2/3 acres. Elizabeth White, 20 acres. [These appear to have been the three youngest children of Elizabeth Proctor Haden, and their older sister Elizabeth who married John White - they had other siblings living at the time and I have no idea why they were not included. It is also true that the total acreage seems to be slightly more than seemed to be allotted by the will of James Proctor when he gave the property to his brother Charles and then to descend to his children.]
