John Honeycutt

(1782 - Jul 1860)

It is very likely this is a wrong connection. I have found conflicting databases concerning the son John, born to Moses Honeycutt and Margaret Elizabeth Lucinda Stout. Moses Honeycutt is pretty much a mess in Ancestry trees and on FamilySearch with extra wives and children born to both at the same time as well as way too many children of the same names. This John seems to have been born a few years prior to Moses' marriage - it isn't likely John was younger that his estimated birth given the date of his married to Sarah Moser.

Another John H. Honeycutt, said to be their son is said to be born 1794 in NC, died 24 Mar 1857, Union Parish, Louisiana - and was married to Cady Watson. I also have two autosomal matches to a person who descends from this John....

This John Honeycutt is most likely the son of Moses:
A database on WorldConnect states that John Honeycutt married Tabitha Hampton - still different from either of the two above. Still other online database gives his wife as Jane Bradford - he married her 1815, Burke or Buncombe, NC. Some have John as married to both Tabitha and Jane.

One database had a date of marriage for this John and Sarah Moser as 5 Aug 1802 in Randolph Co NC. Sarah said to be the daughter of Jacob Mose & Dorcas Honeycutt.

Summary of John Honeycutt.
From research, it looks like John migrated to Tennessee sometime before 1813. There is a John Honeycutt listed on the 1818 Campbell Co, TN Tax List. Campbell County borders Claiborne County on the west side. I believe John was first in Campbell County before he settled in Claiborne County. Also, there was a John Honeycutt who served in Brown's Regiment of the East Tennessee Volunteers during the War of 1812. In 1847, John deeded his land in Claiborne Co, TN to his son Alvis Honeycutt. Jacob and Michael Honeycutt were subscribed witnesses to the land deed. In approximately 1850, many Honeycutts from Claiborne Co, TN migrated to Indiana and I believe John went with them but returned to Tennessee before 1860.
Sarah Moser. Sarah and John married in 1802 Randolph Co, NC with William Williams as the Bondsman. A William Williams was listed directly after a Urias Honeycut (alleged brother of John) in the Claiborne County, TN 1840 Census. A coincidence?
Also, there were 6 Moser households listed in the Orange Co, NC 1790 Census on the same page as Moses Honeycutt (alleged father of John). The two Moser households that interests me the most are Jacob Moser & Michael Moser since I have children for John & his wife named the same.
