1 Aug 1862 - enlisted in the CSA, Company C, 53rd Alabama Cavalry Regt, same company as his brother Arthur. He was born 13 Nov 1840 and was 21 when he enlisted.

Abram Crofford Mims (signs as A. C. Mims) of RFD 3, Clanton, AL was on the pension rolls #1179. Had lived in Alabama all his life - born near Clanton in what was Autuaga Co, now Chilton, on 13 Nov 1840. He enlisted 1 Aug 1862 at Wetumpka as a Private in the Cavalry, Company C, 53rd Regt. John C. Humphries was his Capt; Col. was M. V. Hannon to the best of his recollection.
Battles fought included the Cherokee in AL and all along the line to Nome GA, 2nd - Chickamauga, 3rd - Missionary Ridge, 4th - New Hope Church, around Atlanta and back to Columbia, Tenn., in the fall & winter of 1864 and there fought artillery duel across the Duck River, I believe they called it, while our men were putting down Pontoon Bridges for our Armies to cross to Frankford and Nashville.
He was wounded twice. Fall of 1863 at Chickamauga and and New Hope Church in early 1864. He was captured, headed off from joining his Company at Montgomery in March of 1864. He was discharged by parole in May 1865 at Montgomery, AL.
He was transferred to other units - to Hearts Artillery in May of 1863 and 2nd to Capt. Marshall's battery, 1st Tenn. in Sep 1863. He served a total of two years and nine months.
His first wife died in 1900 at the age of 70. His present wife is 67 years old - they married in August of 1919. He was a farmer as long as he was able & could see. He lives with O. F. Scott.
His living children are Rebecca A. Smith of Rt. #3 Clanton, a farmer's wife; and Mollie M. Scott of Rt. #3, Clanton, a farmer's wife.
