Mary drew a pension on the Civil War service of Alfred Baker. Several of the papers have been posted on Ancestry but they are not transcribed and the resolution is low. Apparently she applied in 1908. John Baker, Sr. and Anderson Baker, Sr., were her witnesses. She stated she had never remarried since Alfred Baker's death 9 Feb 1896. He had never drawn a pension. The Board of Examiners for Chilton Co recommended she receive the pension, 10 Aug 1909. There are statements of her property - she had none. There are several pay vouchers on Ancestry and a request for her transfer from Chilton Co to Jefferson Co. She lived with her son in Tarrant, a suburb of Birmingham.
At one point, form not dated, she applied from Jefferson Co for "Reclassification". She stated her father was Thomas Johnson which is a bit odd- maybe he was Thomas Jacob? She did state a former marriage to Duncan Motes, 1854, Shelby Co. She had lived in another state - Indian Territory - for one year, which nicely corroborates the story of a granddaughter, Mary Blanche, daughter of Amos (Moats) Baker.
