Samuel conveyed to his son Joshua, on 10 Sep 1731, 20 acres which as Samuel Hoskins Jr. he had bought in 1713 of Samuel Stacey. (Cited as Deeds 19:536 and 9:548)

Joshua was a farmer and blacksmith. His will was dated 1 Jan 1772.

Last Will and Testament: Joshua Hoskins of Taunton, Bristol, MA Bay, yeoman. All debts & funeral charges to be paid. To three sons, Joshua, Abijah & Samuel - all my lands & buildings. To Joshua, over & above, my oxen, cart & wheeler. To son Samuel 20sh - I have given him time to be free from any labor for me since he was about seventeen years of age. Two daughters, Martha Pratt and Lydia Lincoln wife of Abram Lincoln, 20sh to be paid in one year. Dau Prudence Hathaway wife of Lemuel Hathaway, 8 #'s. To Rebekah Hack, wife of Nathan Hack, 6 #'s, 13sh, 4p. To Hannah Hoskins & Ann Hoskins, 6 #'s, 13sh, 4p each, the four last mentioned daughters to be paid in stock, household goods. To dau Hannah & Ann, over & above, two beds & furniture now in my chamber & in the bedroom so called with one duzen of chairs & one chest to be equally divided between them. Son Joshua to be Executor. 1 Jan 1772. Signed: Joshua Hoskins (very shakey hand) Wit: Lydia Godfrey, John Godfrey, George Godfrey. Proved Sep 5, 1785.

The probate file contains complaints and a petition for a guardian to be appointed for Joshua Hoskins who is non compos mentis and incapable of taking on or performing his duties. 18 Jan 1786. The petition itself is signed by the widow and the other heirs as well as a number of the townspeople.

Lydia Haskins & Nathan Hack, executors, but her name is crossed out. Bond was 1000 #'s. Edward Blake & Nehemiah Pratt, securities. Another bond dated 17 Apr 1787. Abial Whitman & Thomas Church sign with Nathan Hack as his securities.

The inventory lists 63 acres & 70 rods with buildings, and another 11 acres lying to the east side of three mile river.

In one of the reports, Nathan Hack lists the debts of Legacies unpaid - names were Mercy Andrews (Martha Pratt, remarried) Lydia Linkon, Prudence Hathaway, Rebecca Hack, Hannah Hoskins, Anna Edy and Samll Hoskins.

"2764. HOSKINS - Joshua Hoskins, son of Samuel and Mary (Austin) Hoskins, b. at Taunton, MJass, was a farmer and blacksmith. His will was dated Jan 1, 1772. He had the following children: Joshua Jr., Abijah, Lemuel, Mercy who m. Jonathan Pratt; Lydia who m. Abraham Lincoln of Taunton and Freeport; Prudence who m. Lemual Hathaway; Rebecca who m. Nathan Hack, and Hannah who m. Ephraim Eddy. Lemuel, the third son, was b. ab. 1710 and was a blacksmith of Taunton and late of Scituate, Mass. He had: Rebecca, Betsy, William and Lemuel. Late in life he m. a Miss Hoskins, probably a relative. What was the name his (1) wife and did he have Rev. service?
