Susannah Keene
(Abt 1641 - 28 Mar 1715)
Daughter of Thomas Keene
Thomas Keene, a cooper and merchant, came to Virginia form England. (His mother was a first cousin of Bartholomew Gosnold, who commanded the ship Goodspeed to the Jamestown settlement in 1607. Perhaps this was a factor in Thomas' decision to come to the colonies.) In 1631, Thomas and his wife, Mary Thorley, were among the 100 Virginia settlers who arrived on Kent Island, in Chesapeake Bay, with Col. William Clayborne. Clayborne's intent to settle the island for Virginia eventually proved a futile quest and, in 1649, most of those settlers sailed down the bay to St. Mary's City, MD, and across the Potomac to Cherry Point on Virginia's Northern Neck.
