1850 Census, next door to Carlton Belt: Jared Belt, age 44, also born in Ohio - no doubt a brother to Carlton. Wife Sarah, and children George, John, Carlton, Sarah A., and Samuel. This must be a 2nd marriage of Jared as there is a marriage record: Jared Belt to Sarah Dawson 25 Jun 1842, Vigo Co IN. Children Sarah A. & Samuel ages 4 and 2 are much younger than the others. George was 15, John 14, and Carlton, 11.

J. Belt was in the 1840 census in Vigo Co IN, at that time there were 2m under 5, 1m 5-10, 1m 30-40 [probably Jared], 1f 5-10, and 1f age 20-30.

April Term, 1852, Vigo County Probate Court
Carlton C. Belt petitioned to be appointed guardian of George Belt, John Belt, Carlton Belt, Ann Belt, and Samuel Belt - all minor heirs of Jared Belt. He asked to sell as lot that Jared Belt had owned and noted that Sarah Belt, widow, had dower interest in the lot. Appraisors were appointed, valuing the lot at $700 and on 22 Apr 1852, it was sold to Ann, James E., Matilda & Josephine Coomes for that amount. Deed was made and the case closed 22 Apr 1852.
