This source also says: Josiah Jackson, a soldier of the American Revolution, was born in Amelia Co., VA. Enlisted from that county in 1781. Served one year and is credited with the loss of eight horses. Reference to his service can be found in the U S Dept of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions, Rev War Section, Index Vol A, p 371 - Pension Claim W. 9332. [Note - this reference then identifies the wrong lineage for this Josiah. The father of Josiah was Francis Jackson, who was born about 1725, died 1776, Flat Creek, Amelia Co, VA, who was the son of Williams Jackson born 1688, died in Henrico, VA, in 1739.] The pension claim of Josiah Jackson gives his birthday as 19 Dec 1746. After the Revolution Josiah with his wife Dortha moved to Clark Co., KY. Josiah and Dortha established their home at Jackson's Ferry, living there until their death. The large rambling old white house near the banks of the Kentucky River is standing today and in a fair state of preservation. Josiah and his wife are buried in the garden along with other members of his family. The headstones give the dates of their deaths. Josiah's Aug 1836, Dortha 1806. His only son Col. Francis' grave is also marked he was born 4 Feb 1776, died 14 Oct 1861. His children were: Col. Francis Flournoy Jackson, Dortha who married Elijah Vaughn, Eadah married a Holder, Patsy married Enoch (Enos?) Vaughn, Nancy married Thomas Vaughn.

Married Dortha Ashurst first - then Sarah Strupes, bond dated 16 Nov 1809 - minister's return shows they were married the same day. Digitized on FamilySearch.
