Barbara Hedden Bird was born at Baylor Hospital in Dallas at 12:30 pm on 29 Sep 1926. Parents were Geo. Hedden Bird, age 48, and Julia Shay, age 36 - they lived at 3843 Shenandoah. George was born in New Jersey and was an auditor. Julia was born in New York. She was the second child of this mother.

Barbara Hedden Bird (Bobby) of Dallas passed away March 15, 2009, at the age of 82. She was born September 29, 1926 to Julia Shay Bird and George Hedden Bird. Bobby graduated from Highland Park High School in 1941. She then attended the University of Colorado where she received double majors in Architecture and Engineering. Bobby pioneered the field of architectural engineering for women, having worked for a number of years as a commercial architect in Dallas contributing to the design of many prominent commercial projects. After many years in the industry, she changed careers and opened a Tack shop for horses in Richardson called The Buggy Whip. Bobby had a love for horses and bought a farm in Garland, Texas where she could keep her own. She built the barn on her property herself. She was also an avid golfer in her early years, winning several tournaments at the Dallas county Club. In 1988 Bobby moved to Sitka, Alaska, where she lived until 2005. Bobby spent many hours volunteering at the Sheldon Jackson Museum. She had many friends to whom she was very loyal for many years. Bobby will be remembered for her sharp mind, great sense of humor, independent and adventurous spirit. Bobby was preceded in death by her parents Julia and George Bird. She is survived by her daughter Valentina Sheffield and husband Charles, their three children, Brian, Michael and Nicole, sister Jeanne Bridget O'Dwyer, niece Ann Blackwell, niece Kay Miller, nephew Tom O'Dwyer, nephew George O'Dwyer, nephew Bill O'Dwyer, and 15 great nieces and nephews. Her family would also like to thank Katie Louise Brown for her many years of faithful service. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the North Chapel at Calvary Hill Mausoleum. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time, and the committal will follow services at Calvary Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bobby's name to the Bird-O'Dwyer campership fund, Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America, 8605 Harry Hines Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75235.
