Julia made application for her passport, 5 Sep 1918. She was born 3 Jun 1890, Salamanca (Cattaraugus Co) New York. Her father was Michael Shay, born Yougal, County Cork, Ireland. He immigranted in 1855 and lived in this country for 57 years. Michael was naturalized by virtue of his father's naturalization since he came as a minor child. Julia was a stenographer for the Red Cross and planned to sail from New York to Great Britain, France, Italy, and Switzerland. She was age 28, 5' 4 1/2" tall, dark brown hair, gray eyes. She signed an affidavit that she had no immediate male relative serving in any capacity overseas. Letters were also included from the Red Cross and Military Intelligence attesting to her work.
She arrived back in New York, 18 Dec 1919, having sailed on the "S. S. Rotterdam" from Boulogne, departing 6 Dec 1919.

Julia died in Dallas at the Medical Arts Hospital of acute Leukemia. Her residence was 3843 Shenandoah, Unversity Park, Dallas County, TX. She died 22 Sep 1959, age 69. Julia was born 3 Jun 1890 in New York. Her father was Michael Shea; her mother Bridget Conery. George Bird was the informant. She was buried Calvary Hill Cemetery, Dallas.
