1776, Mar 23 Last Will & Testament of William Atkisson (Attkisson) of St. James Parish Northam. Deed Book 12, pp. 158-159 Goochland Co., VA.:
In the name of God AMEN. I William Atkisson of Goochland County & Parrish of St. James Northam, being sick, tho perfectly in my Senses, do make this my Last Will and Testament in the following manner my Desire is that after my Decease my body be Decently interred at the Discretion of my Exors and that Rever'd Mr. Doughlas, be got to preach my funeral sermon. And as to the worldly Effects and Possessions I Dispose of in the following manner Item I give & bequeath to my son Josias Atkisson one hundred & sixty acres Land being part of the Tract whereon I now live to include the creek Tract & the Ballance to make up the Qu--ty(Quantity) to be laid off Joining Elizabeth Napiors line which land I do give to him together with a feather bed and furniture commonly called his, to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give to my daughter Anne Atkission, one Feather bed & Furniture which bed ect. she commonly makes use of to her and her heirs forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Eliz-th Atkission one feather bed & furniture which she commonly makes use of, to her and her heirs forever.
Item I lend the residue of my Estate to my wife Mary During her Widdowhood to be hers personally possessed without Molestation which consists of one hundred and fifty acres of Land whereon I now live Six negroes all my household and Kitchen furniture not already disposed together with Stock; Stock of horses, cattle, sheep, hogs ect. as also my Crop on hand with provisions ect.
Item I give & bequeath unto my son Josias Atkission and his heirs forever, one negro boy named Dick to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give unto my Daughter Anne Atkission, one negro girl named Judah to her and her heirs forever with her Increase.
Item I give & bequeath unto my Daughter Eliz-th Atkission, one negro girl named Tamer & her future Increase to her and her heirs forever.
The whole remainder of my Estate not already disposed of, I Desire may be sold and the money arise from the sale thereof I Desire to be Equally Divided between all my Sons and Daughters. To wit - Jesse, Stephen, Absolem, Job, Hezekiah, Isaiah, Josias, Anne and Eliz-th Atkission to them and their heirs forever. I do not mean that any of the Legacies given to my children are to be given up till after the Decease or Future marriage of my wife Mary Atkission, except the land given Josias and the three feather beds given to Josias, Anne and Eliz-th Atkission. Lastly I do appoint Isaiah Atkission, Josias Atkission and my wife Mary Atkission to be Exors & Executrix to this my Last Will and Testament to which I set my hand and fix my seal this twenty Third day of March One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Six.

Thomas Underwood and Joseph Perkins Witnesses hereto proved this writing to be the Last Will and Testament of William Atkinson, dec'd such was thereupon admitted to Record. Deed Book 12, 1777-1779, pp. 158-159. Goochland Co., VA

The first six sons named in William's will were sons of the first marriage to a Mary, unknown. The last three children (Josias, Ann and Elizabeth) were of the second marriage, to Mary Perkins, daughter of Constantine Perkins, and a sister of Ann, wife of William Oglesby and of Elizabeth, wife of Joseph Ellis of Henrico County, Virginia.
