James Noland

(28 May 1740 - 26 Dec 1833)

Three of the sons of Daniel Noland lived in Rowan Co, NC. What is very curious is that there was on the 1759 Rowan Tax list, one William Noland with 2 polls - could he have been my missing Noland brother, husband of Clarinda, in Madison Co, Kentucky? Daniel's brother Stephen had a son named William but he was an infant in 1759.

James Noland, age 92, applied for pension 19 Nov 1832, Estill Co KY. In the fall of 1775 James enlisted as a Minute Man for 12 months in Loundoun Co., VA under Captain Simon Triplett. He was in Bell Haven - now Alexandria, VA when the Declaration of Independence was declared. He had a written discharge from Capt Triplett, but it was destroyed when his house burned in North Carolina. After the expiration of his year under Triplett, he moved to North Carolina where he fought the Tories to the end of the War. He was in a skirmish near the Moravian Town at North Carolina, against Captain Wright, a Tory Captain, when the Tories and British were defeated. [this would surely be Col. Gideon Wright - a direct ancestor].
His brother Jesse testified that he was 71 years of age, Dec next and well recollects that James was a soldier in 1775 and 1776 and that he was with him in North Carolina.
1 Oct 1838, Barbara Noland, an aged woman and widow of James Noland stated she was married to him by Parson Griffy at the old English church in Loudoun Co, VA on 26 Dec 1774. She will be 79 on 28 May, next. She was between 14 and 15 shen married and her first child, Stephen Noland, now of Indiana, was born on the 6th of June. They resided in Rowan Co NC until about 1812 when they moved to Estill Co KY. James Noland died 26 Dec 1833.
James Noland of Estill Co, KY, private in the Virginia Line for 1 year and 1 year as Captain, from 1775, inscribed on pension roll of Kentucky, to commence 4 Mar 1831. Certificate issued 16 Jan 1833.
Barbara Noland, was inscribed 27 Dec 1833; her certificate issued 22 Jun 1839.
