Jesse Alexander Maddox

(1832 - 17 May 1900)

A Jesse Maddox married Martha A. Barrett, 12 Oct 1864, Shelby Co, AL. There is also a record of Jesse Maddox to Halley Barrett, 23 Aug 1852, Shelby Co.
However - Find A Grave Memorial# 173231523 gives the wife of Jesse Alexander Maddox as Martha Emeline ELLISON - bringing these records into question - probably a very different Jesse Maddox in Shelby.

Martha E. Ellison was born 10 Aug 1843, died 2 Dec 1912.

Here are some of my notes regarding this matter, from my research on Jesse, my gg grandfather.
Jesse A. was the son of Joseph Maddox, whose middle name may have been Warren. And researchers think that the Mary that was Jesse’s mother, may have been Mary Vaughn, because of a marriage license from Columbia County, Georgia on April 12, 1814. There were still two Joseph Maddox families in Georgia on the 1830 census, after our Joseph Maddox was already in Alabama, so it is not absolute that Mary Vaughan married our Joseph. Although one of the other Joseph Maddoxes also moved to Alabama, after 1851, but to a different area (Midway, Bullock County), and shows up on a 1860 Barbour County census with a wife named Nancy. Just not sure whether Nancy was a first wife or, not, but a Joseph Maddox married a Nancy Glass in Newton County Jan. 11, 1825. But that makes it more likely that our Mary is the Mary Vaughn.
