George Newton Mims, age 83, died at the residence Friday, August 28th, at 10:00 pm. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 pm from the Temple Assembly of God, Rev. C. E. Handley, C. B. Davis and Sam Connell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery; Spigener Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Alice Lee Mims of Clanton; eight daughters - Mrs. Allen Tracy, Mrs. M. B. Adams, Mrs. Arthur Robinson, Mrs. Renie Baker, Mrs. James Ellison, Mrs. Eva Thomas, all of Clanton, Mrs. Mary Epperson of Sycamore, Ala.; Mrs. Lillian Collins of Atlanta, Ga.; four sons - Horace Lee Mims of Clanton, Charlie, George and Norman Mims of Sylacauga; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Johnson of Clanton, and Mrs. Walter Maddox, also of Clanton; 49 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, 8 great, great grandchildren - 140 descendants.
Native of Chilton County, he was born Sep 15, 1875, the son of John Mims and Pennie Mims.
