Penalties Given For Possession of Slain Deer
Two Colton Men Pay Fines, Third Goes to County Jail
Three Colton men were fined $300 each with an alternative of 150 days in jail, when they pleaded guilty yesterday before Justice H. W. Finlay to illegal possesion of two deer carcasses. The charges were filed by County Game Warden, William C. Malone.
William Charles Stevens, 822 East F Street and Warren Grover Black, 230 West H Street, chose to pay the fines. Leon Truett Upshaw, 859 East D Street, went to the county jail. Last night he complained of being ill and was taken to the prison ward of the San Bernardino County Hospital, sheriff's deputies reported.
The men admitted in court the deer, a mother and a faw, were shot in the San Jacinto mountains.
...arrest came as a result ...Colton police search for a car which allegedly had left a drive-in stand with trays on which the occupants had been served and with the bill unpaid. License number of the car was taken by the stand's attendants.
Colton officers went at 2:30 am Tuesday to the home of Upshaw on East D Street, where, they said, they found the three men in a garage with the carcasses of two deer hanging from the rafters.
