John Thomas may have had a brief earlier marriage to Zillyann Virginia Dennis in 1886. He is listed as "J. T. Traywick on the marriage certificate - apparently as Thomas on the death certificate of a possible son John Joseph Traywick (1887-1965) who married Columbia Anna Nelson, 7 Oct 1908 in Autauga Co.. If there was such a marriage, it ended in divorce, or was a different man who died soon after the marriage, as Zillian married Jasper Connell in 1888. In 1900, there is a John "Connell" age 13 in the household of Jackson & Jiller Connell. There are two different men linked to Zillian on FindAGrave - this John Thomas and a Thomas b. 1858, d. 1886. On FamilySearch.org there is a marriage for Zilliann Dennis, age 19, to J. T. Traywich, age 28, 11 Sep 1886, Chilton, AL and on 16 Aug 1888, J. A. Traywick married J. N. Connell. [Note: If J. T. Traywich's age was misread and it actually said 23 - that would agree with his birth year of 1863 - such an easy mistake to make, especially since Traywich was misread.... I also suspect the J. T. should have been read as J. J. because census records have his as "Jeffie"]

The marriage to Mary McKee was also as "J. T." Traywick, but his birth was suggested as 1863. His name is seen several different ways - John J., Jeffie, Jeffrey Thomas, John Thomas, John Jefferson, etc. I suspect he may have had three names - John Thomas Jefferson Traywick.

J. T. Traywick Died
Jeff T. Traywick, age 76, died at his home in Shiloh community last Saturday night, following an extended illness. Burial was at Macedonia, Beat 11, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, services conducted by Rev. W. P. Lowery; Spigener in charge. Pallbearers were: Carlos Owens, Olen Bice, Barnice Culp, James Traywick, Earl Wright, and Bill Traywick.
Surviving is the widow, Mrs. Nancy Cagle Traywick and eleven children. There are 23 grandchildren and three great greatchildren.
The surviving children are: Five sons - Houston, Luther, Herbert, Leonard and Aaron; the daughter are Mrs. Odie Owens, Mrs. Maggie Bice, Mrs. Roberta Culp, Mrs. Jewel Wright, Mrs. Myrtle Brown, and Miss Marselle Traywick. Three brothers survive - George, J. W. (Tab), and Tom Traywick, all of near Clanton; two sisters, Mrs. Sallie Cox, and Mrs. Janie Ellison.
Jeff Traywick was first married to Mary McKee, sister of T. L. McKee. She died some twenty years ago.
