Cynthia Comstock

( - Abt 1834)

Will dated 25 Dec 1834 in Adams, MA made a bequest to her brother Seth of New York and mentioned sister Abigail Angell of Rhode Island, if she will live with Job Anthony in Adams. The will was proved 15 Apr 1835.

The 1830 Census, Berkshire Co, MA, Adams does have a single Job Anthony. He is age 30-40 and has two females in his household. One is also age 30-40; the other is age 70-80. Is this perhaps Cynthia?

In 1840, Job Anthony of Adams, Berkshire Co has the following in his household:
1m -5, 1m 5-10, 1m 10-15, 1m 40-50. 1f 5-10, 1f 30-40, and 1f 40-50. If this is Job from 1830, the younger female may be the parent of some are all of the children. There isn't an older woman in the household and some of the children should have been listed with Job in 1830.

In 1850, Job Anthony was still present in Adams. He was age 53, or born about 1797, consistent with the earlier censuses. His apparent spouse was Hannah age 46. Also in the household was Susan age 20, Job K. age 16, Edmund age 14. All born in Massachusetts. Ruth Harkness, age 41, born in New York, also lived with the family.

A WorldConnect search showed that the wife of Job Anthony was Hannah Harkness and they had married 3 Mar 1829. Job's parents were Edmund Anthony (1770-1821) and Jemima Hoxie. His Anthony grandparents were Job Anthony (b. 1714) and Abigail Bush of Portsmouth, RI. I did not find a Comstock family connection which might shed light on the strange bequest in Cynthia's will.
