Elizabeth Proctor
(15 Mar 1755 - )
This is most likely the Elizabeth Proctor, daughter of George Proctor, that married George Hume about 1780, probably still in Spotsylvania Co, VA. They seem to be mentioned in a will fragment of a Proctor whose wife was Mary, sons were George & Benjamin; the will likely written 1798-1800. The fragment is in the burned records of Fayette Co KY.
A Bible page transcription, taken from a Bible dated 1730, printed in Edinburgh, has a possible birth date with a note that the Bible was brought from Scotland by William Hume, a son of George Hume, and given by William to his son Rev. George Hume.
Interestingly, the elder George Hume/Home also said to have married an Elizabeth Proctor, 16 Feb 1727. The Elder George Hume was imprisoned about 1715 for political reasons, but released and placed on a Glasgow ship. He was a distant cousin of Gov. Spottswood of Virgina who later employed him as assistant to the chief surveyor of William & Mary College. In 1726, he was engaged as the official surveyor of Orange Co. [Orange Co not formed until 1734....]. Records are primarily in the early Spotsylvania Co records. He died about 1760 in Culpeper Co.
William Hume, son of the elder George, was married three times; the 2nd wife whose surname was Granville, was likely the mother of the younger George, who married this Elizabeth Proctor, born 1755.
The Hume book, does state that William, had a son George, born Oct 1755, Fredericksburg VA and he married Elizabeth, the eldest daughter of George Procter, Jr. - his second cousin., circa 1780 or 1781.
