Individual Details

James Haden

(1820 - )

Ancestral File has a date of death as bef Jun 2 1834 in Logan County, KY. This is an error as James is alive long after this date.

From "Logan County Wills & Estate Settlements - 1856-1874" published by Logan County Genealogical Society: James is still living in 1859. The heirs are still disputing inheritance of his parents.

Marriage to Maria T. Wilson found in "Logan County Kentucky Marriages 1790-1865". He is the only marriageble James Haden known to be living in the county at that time.

Found in Kosciusko, Attala Co MS in the 1850 Census as James Haden, merchant, born KY - living with him is Maria T., age 29, also born in KY. No children are listed - if he had none that might explain why this line disappears from view. He had two clerks living with him in 1850 - J. C. Powell, age 23, born in NC & James J. Jackson, age 17, born in Alabama.
The Slave Schedule for 1850 showed the following six slaves for James Haden, Female, age 25; Female, 23; Male, 16, Mulatto; Female, 4; Female, 2.
Not found in 1860 - there was no James Haden, slave owner, in the state of Mississippi. I have not found either James or Maria.

A Deed in Logan Co DB W, p.32, concerning all the heirs of Samuel Wilson, identifies Samuel's daughter Maria T. Wilson as the wife of James Haden. Following the signatures of James Haden & Maria T. Haden is that of Rebecca Haden - James' mother. Within the deed appears the name Rebecca Frizel - who would be the infant daughter of Samuel Wilson's deceased daughter Eliza Frizzell. The signatures were all signed by the Commissioners and copied by the court clerk so there was definitely room for error.
