The fact that Elizabeth Bray's family seems to have had ties to Col. Richard Johnson's family [her aunt Ann Meriwether had married Thomas Johnson, son of Col. Richard] has led many to believe her husband's father William was the same man as Col. Richard's son William. This does not seem to be case. William, father of Phillip lived in a different place and seems to have been some 10 to 15 years older than the William, son of Col. Richard.
