Presley Carter

Land transactions listed in the Carter book, quite possibly Halifax Deeds. In 1791 and 1792, Presley purchased two tracts of land from persons named Waddell. In July of 1794, Presley Carter, by then of Pittsylvania Co sold to Abner Rodney, 199 acres in Halifax Co.

Probably a Halifax deed:
7 Feb 1805, Thompson Carter, Frederick Miller, Presley Carter & Levin Carter sold to Spencer Carter, 100 acres lying on the Halifax side of the Pittsylvania line, adjoining land of Charles E. Carter.
In many online databases, Presley Carter is listed with a second wife Elizabeth Pettus - but the marriage of Elizabeth and her Presley Carter took place in Caroline Co, 3 Dec 1794. He had married Anne Waddell ten years previously in Halifax Co and there is nothing to indicate he left the area of Halifax and Pittsylvania after that time. It's quite likely this is a different man in Caroline Co - some of the Carters had come from Caroline and likely some remained there.
