Richard is said to have gone with his brother Nathaniel to Charles City Co about 1790. He was the only one to remain permanently. The earliest record found by Cabell was 18 Jan 1798 when he presented accounts as guardian of another Richard Waddill, son of his first cousin, Samuel Waddill. He married Sarah Charles, daughter of Philip Charles. His wife was born 1768 and died 1 Nov 1833.

Children were George Christian Waddill and Susan Waddill who married Littlebury Eppes.
