Benjamin Pippin

(Abt 1755 - Nov 1824)

Benjamin married Elizabeth Hodge before 1775. They had seven children, daughters: Sarah, Elizabeth, Lucy, Ailsa, Nancy & Temperance, and one son William. They were probably all born in North Carolina, but most of Benjamin's children, grandchildren & great grandchildren remained all their lives in Kentucky.

Benjamin's family is on the 1790 & 1800 Census for Edgecombe Co NC. The Feb Court of 1807 fined Benjamin Pippin five pounds for Polly Evans' expenses of lying in & of a bastard begotten on her by the said Pippin. The fine was to be paid to William Philips who was then supporting Polly Evans. This child has not been identified. The Aug Court Records for 1807 note that both Benjamin & Joseph were in arrears for their 1806 taxes. It's possible that they both left Edgecombe Co at this time with Joseph stopping in Jackson Co TN and Benjamin going on to Livingston Co KY.

1790 Census. Edgecombe, NC
Benjamin Pippin: 1m under 16. 1m over 16. 6 females. 3 slaves.

On 24 Dec 1806, Benjamin sold 356 acres on the N side of the Tar River in Conetoe Pocosin to Peter Evans for $500.
17 Jan 1810, in Livingston Co KY, Benjamin granted power of attorney to James Hodge, brother of his wife, to collect all money, notes & property from his brother Joseph of Edgecombe Co NC.
The 1810 Census for Livingston Co shows tow William Pippins - the ages indicate that one of these should have been Benjamin, the other was his son. He is there as Benjamin in 1820.

Benjamin received a KY land grant 21 Feb 1815, for 226 acres on Biswells Creek in Livingston Co.

He died before 12 Nov 1824; there is an agreement among the legal heirs to sell the Negroes of the estate of Benjamin Pippin, dec'd, to the highest bidder.
