Martin received a pension for his Civil War Service. His paymnet card indicates it began 14 Aug 1905 and continued until his death 1 Jan 1919. He had rheumatism, disease of the heart and chronic diarrhea.

Prominent Farmer Expires New Year's Day at Home Near Hemlock
Martin Langley, aged 76 years, a prominent farmer living south-east of Hemlock, died this morning at 8 o'clock, at his late home, of heart trouble. He was a veteran of the civil war and belonged to the same company as Captain Ed Truax. He is survived by the widow and four sons. The funeral arrangements have not been made.

The Funeral of Martin Langley, who died Wednesday morning, will be conducted from the late residence, two and one-half miles each of Hemlock and three-quarters south, Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock. If it is possible for him to attend, Dr. J. L. Puckett will have charge of the services. Interment will follow at Albright cemetery.

Martin Langley was born in the village of Russiaville, Howard County, Indiana, June 14, 1845 and departed this life at the dawn of the New Year's Day morning 1919, aged 71 years, 6 months, 18 days.
In early childhood he removed with his father's family to a farm east of Oakford which was the old family homestead for years.
In the Civil War times as soon as he was old enough he enlisted in the 130th Indiana Volunteer
Infantry. He was ever faithful to duty as a soldier.
He was united in marriage to Rebecca A. Caproon, September 8, 1867; to this union were born six children, five sons and a daughter, the eldest son and the daughter died in infancy. He is survived by his widow and four sons, Elbert, William, John, and Charles. Three sisters also survive him, Mrs. Caproon, Elwood; Mrs. Applegate, Kokomo, and Mrs. Cox, Alexandria, La.
He was always of a cheerful and genial disposition, self-sacrificing, looking ever after the comfort and best interest of his family.
He endeavored to do the right thing, holding to the view of a man living out his belief rather than talking about it.
During his long illness he was patient under great suffering. He realized that the end was near but met it calmly. He was ready to make the change.

Execerpts from "Burial of Marin Langley"
The funeral of Martin Langley was held at his late home northeast of Nevada Saturday morning at 10:30 with Rev. J. E. Featherstone officiating and burial was at the Albright Cemetery in Howard County. His death had taken place, Wednesday morning at seven o'clock.
Mr. Langley was one of the pioneers of the community, have resided on his farm of 105 acres just over the line in Howard Co. since 1874. He was born June 14, 1845 in Howard County and reared there. He was one of nine children born to John and Ruth (Advance [sic]) Langley, both native Hoosiers born in Deleware County, but who resided about eight miles west of Kokomo, when he was born.
The deaceased was a civil war veteran goint out in 1863 with Co. A of the 130th Regt of Indiana Volunteers which was organized at Kokomo. He participated in battles about Nashville, Chattanooga and spent four months in the Atlanta campaign. He received a flesh wound in the left shoulder, at the battle of Buzzard's Roost, Aug. 6th.
...September 8th, 1865, he was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Caproon, daughter of John Caproon. To their union, six children were born, four of whom, with the wife survive him: Charles and John Langley married and living on farms near the parental home; Elbert, a teacher in the public schools at Center, Howard Co; and William, who resides on a farm near Hartford City. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Waitie Caproon of Elwood, widow of the late Abe Caproon, Mrs. Ella Applegate, widow of Pol Applegate of Kokomo, and Mrs. Bessie Cox, widow of Elihu Cox, of Alexandria, La.
...For the past two years he has been a victim of asthma and leakage of the heart and not able to leave his home but few times.
