Tabitha Slaughter

Tabitha married the Rev. Valentine Cook. She was deceased when her father wrote his will.

Valentine Cook was born 1763, died 1822. He was a Methodis preacher who settled on Meddy River in 1806, where the Camp Meeting was held. He attended Cokesbury College in MD and began his ministry in 1788. He became presiding Elder of the Cumberland District in 1798 and married Tabitha the same year. He is buried near the Camp Meeting site.

12 Aug 1822 Valentine Cook. To Tabitha, wife, the slaves that are in my possession that came by her and are to remain hers; the land & property to remain hers for purpose of raising & educating children. If she does not remarry the estate to be portioned out at her discretion to all my sons and daughter. If she remarries, estate to be sold and divided equally among children. Wit: H. Stepen, Boas Roberts, R. Harding. Sig: Valentine Cook. Probate 7 Oct 1822.
