p.133  William H. Slaughter of Madison Co. Last will & testament.  Beloved wife Elizabeth to have all of estate, the plantation where they live consisting of several parcels, one of 480 acres.  11 slaves;  livestock, tools, wagon.  After decease of wife or she dies first, all estate to become property of children: 
Son James M. - east 1/2 of SW 1/4 Section 17. E half of NW 1/4 Section 10.  1/2 of South 1/2 of West half NE 1/4 Section 20.  to include his house, gin, and mill and several slaves.  at his death to become property of his children - nothing to be disposed of without Order ofthe Probate Court. 
[Note written in Margin - omitted perhaps when copied and would seem to belong here.   After decease of wife, son Lewis G.Slaughter to have one half of the balance of lands not before bequeathed to sd James M. Slaughter]
Daughter Elizabeth H. Davidson to become owner of balance of said lands and slaves, not previously mentioned.  If she dies without heirs, James & Lewis or their children to inherit.  If she has heirs, to be theirs.  At the time of division James M. Slaughter must pay Elizabeth $200.
Mentions wife to have household furniture, watch, silver ware and amount of money due from sale of house in Salisbury, NC due - about $400.
Any remainder sold at public auction to be divided equally between James M., Lewis G. Slaughter and Elizabeth H. Davidson.  Son James M. Slaughter, Executor.  20 Feb 1846.  signed: Wm. H. Slaughter

Court of Probate, Feb Term 1849. Garrett & Saddler testified they were present and signed.
p.135  Codicil to above also filed.  Changed legacy of slave woman from James to Elizabeth and he not be  required to pay her $200.  signed:  Wm. H Slaughter.  Wit: L. Maury Garnett
