Individual Details

James Monroe Pippin

(28 Oct 1853 - 3 Oct 1933)

James married Rosetta Paralee Slagle on 12 Dec 1876, Putnam Co. James' brother Joseph married Rosetta's sister, Mary.

Death Certificate gives his name as Jim M. Pippin and cause of death as "acute indigestion". He was born in Putnam Co and was buried Whitson Cemetery on 4 Oct 1933. Father's name given as Bill Pippin, mother's name "unobtainable". He was still married to Paralee at the time of his death and lived in Cookeville, TN, Route #4.

There was a son - Wm. C. Pippin, who was age 55 when he died 22 Feb 1939. His profession was Blacksmith; he died of chronic nephritis. He was married at the time of death to Bessie Haney Pippin and she was the informant. His death certificate gave his father as Jas. Pippin and mother as Paralee Slogel.
Wm. C. & Bessie lost a male child named Frances Pippin, born 1 Jan 1922 and died on Jan 23rd. Said to have died of "spinel minegites" but no doctor was present. Apparently there were twins born on 1 Jan 1922 because another male infant, Jonas Pippin died on 28 Mar 1922. Said to have chronic "direrah" - not well from birth.

Son Jake Erwin Pippin was born 9 Jul 1886 and died 20 Oct 1953 from gastric hemmorhage and Hodgkins disease. He was married at the time of his death. Mrs. Jake E. Pippin gave the information. Parents listed as J. M. Pippin and Parlee Slagle. He was buried Dyer Cemetery in Putnam Co.

Another son, Calvin D. Pippin is said to have married [1] Billie York but this is incorrect. According to her death certificate, his wife was Marcus York Pippin, daughter of Billie York and Lena Stafford. Alice Mayberry was the informant. Marcus died 30 Apr 1926 at age 19 of puerperal eclampsia. She was buried in the Pharris GraveYard.
I did find in the 1930 Jackson Co Census that Billie York & family were located in Gainesboro. His wife was listed as "Lenor" and they had four daughters, one of whom was 13-year-old Marcus. Two houses away was the family of Clay & Alice Mayberry.

Son Beverly lost an infant to colitis. The baby, Alvin B., was born 27 May 1917 and died 14th of Sep that same year. Bev's name was sometimes written "Beverage" - he was married to Minnie Tinsley. The baby buried Whitson GraveYard.

Son Ernest lost his son to suicide. Howard Donald Pippin, born 3 Mar 1923, died 4 Apr 1941, at age 18. The death certificate reads self-inflicted gun wound in left breast. Ernest Pippin had married Helen Brewer - their names are on the death certificate. Howard was buried Whitson Cemetery, Putnam Co.
