James K. Polk Pippin
(11 Aug 1843 - 21 Aug 1899)
James enlisted 8 Feb 1864 and served as a private in Company H, 1st TN Mounted Infantry, Union. He was age 18. He deserted at Livinigston, TN on 10 Apr 1865. He applied for an invalid pension on 2 Jul 1888. The statement when his pension was granted says the charge of desertion was removed.
America divorced James on 5 Feb 1891, asking for custody of their four minor children, Milton, Redman, Jasper, & America. She had child Mary Frances prior to their remarriage on 7 Mar 1893. There were 12 children in all.
James & America are buried at Woodall cemetery in Jackson Co.
